Suggests a move with the reason behind it, warns about threatened pieces, and grades each of your moves.
How the pieces move
- 帥將
General. One point orthogonally, never leaving the palace. The two generals may not face each other on an open file.
- 仕士
Advisor. One point diagonally, inside the palace.
- 相象
Elephant. Exactly two points diagonally; blocked if the midpoint (the eye) is occupied. Cannot cross the river.
- 傌馬
Horse. One point orthogonally, then one diagonally outward. Blocked by any piece on the first step (hobbled leg).
- 俥車
Chariot. Any distance orthogonally, without jumping.
- 炮砲
Cannon. Moves like the chariot, but captures only by jumping exactly one piece (the screen).
- 兵卒
Soldier. One point forward. After crossing the river it may also step sideways. Never moves backward.
A side with no legal move loses, whether in check or not. Perpetual check is not allowed: a side that forces a threefold repetition by checking on every move loses. Other repetitions, 60 moves each without a capture, or no attacking pieces left are draws.
